A pressure washer is based on the principle of washing using pressurized water. The high pressure from the machine, which is sometimes 100 percent higher than that from a garden hose, causes grime and dust to be washed away. Pressure washers have been commonly used in industries but they are finding applicability in household activities, too. Their affordability as well as ease of operation is making them a common household appliance. Pressure washers are now available a prices starting from $200 to $500 or more depending on the water pressure. They may be electric, hydraulic, diesel-based or gasoline-based.
Washers are also classified as hot or cold.
In a pressure washer, water from a garden hose is made to come out in a strong stream. This is because of an electric or gasoline-powered engine attached to a pump. This pump compresses the water and builds up pressure in the pump. The hose has a trigger that has the option of spraying the water either in short bursts or as a continuous spray. The water can also be adjusted according to use. Pressure washers can be used on wood or concrete and find applications in residential, commercial and industrial heavy-duty power washing for automotive contractors, industrial users and pressure washing businesses.
Gasoline based pressure washers operate at between five and seven horsepower and are more powerful than electric pressure washers. Some operate at 24 horse power. Electric pressure washers are preferred lighter cleaning jobs that require less pressure such as windows and glass doors. Using gasoline-based washers on glass surfaces may lead to cracking or breaking of the surface from too much pressure.
The most important things to consider when choosing a pressure washer are the PSI (pounds per square inch), which indicates water pressure, and GPM (gallons per minute), which indicates the flow of water. Higher PSI and GPM means greater power and more pressure. Also check the weight of the washer since more powerful washers are heavier and are more difficult to use.
Pressure washers are being designed with ergonomic handling options and easy adjustments. The main things to be considered while buying a pressure washer are the difficulty of the cleaning job, frequency of use and the cost. Pressure washers also come with various options like rotating nozzles for covering larger area, brush attachments including rotating brushes, detergent attachment and soap sprayers etc.
Pressure washers are available at most hardware stores. The Internet is a good source for locating a good pressure washer. There are several web sites that provide useful information as well as pressure washers for sale. These sites provide the option of comparing a wide range of pressure washer models, the manufacturing advantages, prices, discount options and warranties.
